Health in Danish Aid Policy |

The strategy for Danish development policy has recently undergone a substantial review, giving high priorities to climate, democracy development and creation of jobs in the private sector. When the revision was announced in late 2009, it seemed, however, that support of social sectors such as health would be left out. Global Doctors have therefore been working in the past 6 months to ensure that health also in the future will be given a high priority in Danish development work.

Human Resources in Health |
|
Ensuring adequate human resources in the health system is central to the work of Global Doctors. The WHO estimates that there is a global shortage of as many as 2.4 million health workers. The problem will only tend to get worse as populations age and new treatments are developed. In the coming months, Global Doctors will attempt to adress this problem by preparing a report with recommendations for ensuring better human resources in health. Several Danish decision-makers have expressed their interest.

Human Resources in Health Rwanda |
|
Global Doctors has now begun our new project in Rwanda, titled Human Resources in Health Rwanda. The aim of the project is to build up the capacity of the Rwandan Medical Association to represent health workers in the country and work for proper prioritization of health care resources. In this way we hope to contribute to rebuilding and improving the Rwandan health system. The project will be initiated this July by a workshop in Rwanda with attendance by the RMA, representatives of the Danish Medical Association and Global Doctors.
